Description
This document is an old bearer share certificate issued by "Société de Charbonnages de Pacota", a Dutch limited company whose registered office was located in The Hague (Netherlands). It is a fully paid-up capital share certificate, with a nominal value of 40 florins, numbered 37926. The certificate features an intricate ornamental gold and green frame, typical of early 20th-century shares, with a regular geometric pattern all around.
The center of the document displays the company name, the amount of the share capital (2,600,000 florins), and the mention of the division into 65,000 shares. A partially legible blue stamped seal authenticates the validity of the share. Another circular red seal is visible in the upper left part, attesting to additional validation, probably fiscal or administrative.
On the right side of the certificate, there is a series of detachable coupons, numbered from 7 to 13, also stamped with the share number. These coupons were intended to be detached when dividends were paid or for other financial operations. The printing, carried out by E. Stockmans & Co in Antwerp, is of great fineness, with period typography and a neat layout, reflecting the administrative and banking style of the 1920s.
The document has a patinated appearance, with cream and green tones, highlighting its authenticity and age. No chips, missing parts, or tears are visible on the photographed side. The overall condition is visually clean, with slight wear compatible with its age, especially on the edges and a slight waviness of the paper.
The entire visible side offers excellent readability of the main inscriptions, including: "Société de Charbonnages de Pacota", "Capital Social: 2.600.000 Florins", "Action de Capital de 40 Florins entièrement libérée" (Capital Share of 40 Florins fully paid up), and the individual numbering. The adjacent coupons are also well preserved and clearly printed.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The antique share certificate is in good visual condition, with normal traces of age. This certificate retains its original colors and shows slight wear, mainly on the edges and corners, with no major apparent defects on the visible side.
Did you know? Bearer shares issued in the 1920s were common for European mining and industrial companies. They often had detachable coupons for dividend payments. Since the late 20th century, most countries have abolished this type of share for traceability reasons and to combat financial fraud.
