Description
This document is a bearer share certificate issued by Établissements J. Canat, Luxury Hosiery, dated September 28, 1928. The visible side features pink-hued paper adorned with an elegant geometric pattern frame typical of the late 1920s. The title "Établissements J. Canat" appears at the top, accompanied by the mention "Bonneterie de Luxe" (Luxury Hosiery). The registered office is indicated as Sumène (Gard), and the share capital amounted to 1,600,000 francs, divided into 3,200 shares of 500 francs each.
The main part of the document explicitly states "ACTION DE CINQ CENTS FRANCS AU PORTEUR ENTIÈREMENT LIBÉRÉE" (FIVE HUNDRED FRANC BEARER SHARE FULLY PAID UP), followed by a handwritten share number. Several handwritten signatures of administrators are visible at the bottom, as well as a round ink stamp. The text is printed in black on a pale pink background, with period typography that is well-preserved.
On the right side of the share, there is a column of numbered detachable coupons, each stamped in red ink with the company name and information related to dividend payments. These coupons also feature a decorative frieze that matches the frame of the main document.
The document is presented flat, clearly legible in the photo, with no major apparent creases or visible tears on the shown side. It demonstrates careful printing and a graphical style typical of the Art Deco period, with its symmetrical motifs and stylized floral ornaments.
The main inscriptions, stamps, and signatures are clear, without fading. The slightly textured paper shows a slight antique patina, characteristic of 1920s shares. No major defects are visible on the visible part.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The visible side is clean, with a uniform patina, no tears or notable stains in the photographed area. The inscriptions remain perfectly legible.
Did you know? Bearer shares were common in France until the mid-20th century, allowing their holder to receive dividends simply by presenting the detachable coupons. The J. Canat company, specializing in luxury hosiery, illustrates the industrial dynamism of the textile industry in Gard at the end of the 1920s.
