Description

This ceremonial belt buckle, typical of the British Army, features a semi-circular shape with curved side panels. It boasts particularly intricate embossed decoration, dominated by the British royal coat of arms surmounted by an imposing royal crown. Two emblematic heraldic animals are depicted on either side of the crest: the lion on the left and the unicorn on the right, traditional symbols of the United Kingdom.

The center of the motif is occupied by the four-quartered shield, displaying traditional heraldic designs. Around the coat of arms, the motto of the Order of the Garter "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" is clearly visible on a circular ribbon. The motto "DIEU ET MON DROIT" is also embossed on a banner at the bottom of the buckle, perfectly legible.

The entire piece features a golden to brown patina, with darker shades in the recesses of the relief, highlighting the chasing work and the contrast of the decoration. The visual appearance suggests a metallic finish with uniform wear, typical of period pieces used for ceremonial or parade purposes, with no major visible alteration on the presented face.

This buckle, associated with the role of Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM), is distinguished by its official iconography and its Victorian style, identifiable by the crown and the heraldic composition. No manufacturer's or date markings are visible on the face shown. The two lateral ends are curved, likely intended for attachment to the strap of the regulation belt.

The object is presented against a neutral background, allowing for a clear view of the entire decoration and its general condition. No structural defects or missing parts are apparent on the visible face; the patina and signs of wear attest to authentic use, without excessive alteration.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visible patina and uniform wear on the face, with no chips or breaks detected on the photographed part.

Did you know? The motto "HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE" is that of the Order of the Garter, one of the oldest and most prestigious chivalric orders in the United Kingdom, founded in 1348 by Edward III. The heraldic motif with the lion and unicorn has been used since the early 19th century on the British royal coat of arms, symbolizing England and Scotland respectively.
