Description

This old postcard features a black and white photograph of a steamship, identified by the inscription printed at the top right: “1905. Compagnie de Navigation Mixte — “Le Rhône” — EL.”. The image shows the ship in profile, at sea, with two masts, a central funnel, and superstructures typical of mixed passenger-cargo ships from the early 20th century. A French flag is visible at the stern, confirming the ship's origin. In the background, a steep coastal landscape and a massive building on a hill are distinguishable, characteristic elements of old maritime postcards.

The postcard has a matte finish and appears to be printed on cardstock, typical of productions from the early last century. The photograph faithfully renders the ship’s architectural details: railings, lifeboats, shrouds, and gangways are clearly visible. The contrasts of the photographic print highlight the ship's dark structure against the bright sea.

The overall style of the card, as well as the typography of the inscription, are characteristic of editions from the 1900s to 1910s. No reverse side is visible in the photo, and only the illustrated front is presented.

The maritime scene, with its steamship and coastal landscape, makes it a valuable visual document for the history of maritime transport and philately specializing in naval themes.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The card shows visible signs of handling and slight crease marks on the upper left part. The corners show moderate wear, consistent with its age. The image and inscriptions remain legible and well-contrasted.
