Description

This old postcard shows a historical view of Cavaillon train station, in the Vaucluse. The black and white sepia image shows the main facade of the station, recognizable by its rectilinear architecture and its multi-pitched roof. The inscription "CAVAILLON" is clearly visible on the building. In the foreground, the railway tracks converge towards the horizon, creating a deep perspective typical of early 20th century railway postcards.

On the left, under the porch, several people are visible, some standing, others seemingly waiting or conversing, which bears witness to the daily activity of a small regional station. A steam train is stopped on the track, identifiable by its characteristic locomotive and period carriages, accentuating the atmosphere of yesteryear. The scene is enlivened by the presence of trees lined up on the platform, an old lamppost, and passers-by in historical attire.

The photograph bears the inscription "1751 Phototyp. E. Lacour – Marseille" in the bottom left, indicating the phototype process used for printing as well as the publisher, a Marseilles printer renowned for his old regional views. The caption "Cavaillon – La Gare" is clearly legible below the image.

The card shows a period patina, with slightly worn edges and a uniform sepia coloring, typical of prints from the turn of the last century. It is preserved in a transparent protective plastic sleeve, visible in the photo. No details of the back are observable in the image provided.

The composition, the clothing style of the characters and the presence of a steam locomotive place this postcard in an estimated period from the very beginning of the 20th century, probably between 1900 and 1920, without being able to state it with absolute certainty.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Traces of wear and handling are visible on the edges and corners, with no major apparent tears on the visible side. The image remains clear and legible, despite a slight discoloration due to age.
