AFW - Antique France Worldwide

This small, antique chromo depicts a charming animal scene: two dogs, one larger with brown and white fur, the other smaller with light fur and a red collar, facing each other in a bucolic setting. The finely detailed illustration shows the careful printing typical of period chromos, with subtle color nuances and a slightly satin effect on the visible surface.

The cut-out follows the contours of the two animals and the landscape, giving the whole a free, non-rectangular shape, particularly sought after for this type of antique iconography. The plant motifs in the background, in green and yellow tones, accentuate the naive realism of the scene, evoking the popular chromolithographs of the late 19th or early 20th century. No text or markings are visible on the presented side.

The observed general condition shows good color preservation, with a vivid and little-altered rendering. However, in light, some slight signs of wear typical of handled old papers are noticeable (patinated edges, possible micro-creases with no visible tearing on this side). The surface has a matte appearance, without apparent varnish, and the details of the fur, muzzles, and grass are still sharp despite the presumed age of the object.

This decorative chromo can be used as wall decoration, framed or placed on furniture, or integrated into a thematic display on antique animal illustration. Its cut-out shape and retro style will appeal to enthusiasts of period iconography, particularly in the field of stationery and vintage visual souvenirs.

Did you know? Chromos were once distributed as advertising or educational images, mainly between 1870 and 1920, and often served to illustrate scenes from daily life or animals, as here. Their printing required several color passes, making each image unique in its nuances and precision.
