Description

Old administrative document visible in the photo, dated from the late 1930s to 1940, related to public works and hydraulic projects in Marseille, entitled "Renewal of authorization - Chantiers Massilia". The main document bears the date of February 21, 1939 in the header and concerns the temporary occupation of the public maritime domain at the Anse du Pharo, Marseille Littoral. It is a report written by a subdivision engineer from the State Public Works Department (T.P.E), with a handwritten section detailing the purpose of the request and administrative references.

The document presents a typical layout of French administration from that period: printed header, handwritten annotations in black ink, and several references to ministerial decrees and circulars. On the margin, the name "Chabannes" and the mention "Marseille Paulille" are visible, likely referring to responsible parties or individuals involved. Several administrative stamps are visible, including one dated February 21, 1939.

The visible side shows signs of use and age: slightly folded corners, small tears in the bottom left, and a general patination of the paper, with a typical ivory tint of old administrative papers. The superposition of other period documents is also visible, including a sheet dated June 28, 1940, partially legible in the background.

The visible text refers to the authorization granted for the occupation of Anse du Pharo by Chantiers Massilia, detailing the areas concerned and references to the decrees of 1878 and 1895. The handwritten text remains perfectly legible on the presented side.

This lot perfectly illustrates the typology of French administrative documents related to major maritime and port infrastructure projects in Marseille on the eve of World War II. The ensemble exudes strong historical authenticity, with characteristic period details (typography, stamps, signatures).

Condition

Used document, in used condition, sold as is. Signs of handling, dog-eared corners, and marks from previous filing visible on the main side. The ink and text remain clearly legible.

Did you know? The "Chantiers Massilia" were among the main shipbuilding and public works sites in the port of Marseille during the interwar period. Temporary occupation permits for the public maritime domain were then strictly regulated by ministerial decrees, in order to regulate the industrial and port development of the city.
