Description

Illustrated philatelic envelope, known as a "First Day Cover" (FDC), dedicated to the Palais de Justice in Rennes. The front of the envelope features a color illustration of the building's facade, set against a stylized red map background with a blue and white coat of arms in the top left. The inscription "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION HISTORIQUE" (HISTORICAL FIRST DAY OF ISSUE) and the edition number "No 489" are clearly visible in the top right of the illustration.

Two round postmarks "PREMIER JOUR PALAIS DE JUSTICE RENNES 9 JUIN 62" (FIRST DAY PALACE OF JUSTICE RENNES JUNE 9 62) are stamped on the front, attesting to the stamp's issue date and the place of cancellation. A postage stamp (the visible part of which shows a building and the mention "PREMIER JOUR") is also affixed to the right.

The surface of the envelope appears protected by a transparent plastic film, suggesting careful preservation of the visible side. A small white square with the handwritten inscription "10F" is affixed to the bottom right of the envelope.

The main inscriptions, notably "PALAIS DE JUSTICE RENNES", "PREMIER JOUR D'ÉMISSION", the coat of arms, the date, and the architectural motif, are clear and legible. The envelope is of a standard rectangular format, with no precise dimensions estimated (not indicated in the image or keywords).

Condition

Used item, sold as seen in the photo. Front protected by a plastic film, illustration and inscriptions well preserved. A handwritten label is affixed to the bottom right. No other visible details regarding the back or interior.

Did you know? First Day Covers (FDCs) are specially produced to mark the official release of a new stamp. The cancellation on June 9, 1962, in Rennes, attests that this stamp was issued and validated on its release day, which gives this type of envelope a special philatelic value.
