Description

Philatelic envelope known as a "First Day Cover" (FDC), illustrated with the theme of Civil Protection – Firefighters. The front of the envelope features a colorful visual depicting a rescue scene, dominated by a stylized red and yellow flame against a blue background. The civil protection symbol, a yellow triangle on a blue background, is prominently displayed in the center of the design. The illustration is accompanied by the mention "PROTECTION CIVILE — SAUVEURS-POMPIERS" (Civil Protection — Firefighter-Rescuers) in the bottom left.

Two round postmarks are clearly visible on the front, bearing the inscription "PREMIER JOUR – PROTECTION CIVILE – SECOURS POMPIERS – 8 FEV. 1964 – PARIS" (First Day – Civil Protection – Firefighter Rescue – Feb. 8, 1964 – Paris). The date of February 8, 1964, indicates the issue date of the stamp associated with this FDC envelope. The stamp, visible on the right, features the civil protection and firefighter motif in red, blue, and yellow tones, harmonizing with the main illustration.

The top of the envelope features the printed mention "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION" (First Day of Issue) followed by the acronym "FDC" (First Day Cover), confirming that it is an official philatelic product, intended to commemorate the first issue of a specific stamp. The visible part also shows a golden print in the bottom left, typical of official French commemorative envelopes from the 1960s.

The entire item is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, preserving the envelope and postmarks. A small handwritten number "108" is visible on a corner of the plastic, likely an internal reference or classification number.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope appears visually clean and well-preserved, under plastic protection. No major defects are apparent on the visible side, apart from slight handling marks on the sleeve.

Did you know? "First Day Cover" envelopes are items issued on the official release of a new stamp. They are postmarked with a special postmark from the day and place of issue, here in Paris in 1964, which makes them sought-after pieces for documenting postal history and the events commemorated by French philately.
