Description

French First Day Cover, illustrated with the theme of the Battle of Fontenoy. The visible side features a colorful illustration of an officer in a blue and brown uniform, saber in hand, against a backdrop of a battle scene. The artwork, signed "Decaris," occupies the left part, while the matching stamp and cancellation are positioned on the right. The inscription "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION HISTORIQUE F.D.C. No 753" appears at the top of the envelope, confirming it is an official FDC (First Day Cover).

The round postal cancellation, clearly visible, mentions "BATAILLE DE FONTENOY PARIS 17 OCT. 1978," certifying the release date of the commemorative stamp. The design of the cancellation reflects the equestrian theme. A "12 F" label is affixed to the bottom right of the envelope, probably indicating an old face value or rate.

The surface of the envelope is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, ensuring its preservation. The overall condition of the visible side appears very good, with no noticeable stains or creases; the print quality of the illustration and cancellation is sharp, with colors well preserved. No major defects are observable on the exposed part.

This type of "First Day" or FDC envelope is sought after for its philatelic and documentary value, here illustrating a significant episode in French military history. The ensemble is typical of French philatelic issues from the 1970s, with detailed graphics and careful layout.

The historical visual, the presence of the matching stamp, and the first-day cancellation make this cover a prime item for thematic philately or postal history enthusiasts.
