Description

Illustrated First Day Cover (FDC) issued in 1972 for the release of a stamp dedicated to Charlieu Abbey. The visible side features a color illustration of Charlieu Abbey, finely framed with the inscription "5ème TOURISME / 1972" at the top. The inscription "L’Abbaye de Charlieu" appears below the image, while a red box in the bottom right corner bears the "CEF" logo, indicating an official CEF edition.

The envelope features two clearly visible First Day postmarks, dated 29-4-1972 in Charlieu, each adorned with a stylized drawing of the historic building. The inscription "PREMIER JOUR D’EMISSION" and "FIRST DAY COVER" is visible in blue, typical of philatelic envelopes intended for stamp collectors. The surface of the envelope is protected by a transparent plastic film, which causes some reflections in the photograph.

The associated stamp, although partially obscured by the postmarks, is identifiable by its heritage theme. The overall appearance is neat, with a presentation typical of First Day Covers issued for French philately in the 1970s. A small handwritten insert indicates the value "10F".

The visible side shows no handwritten inscriptions other than the price, nor any address, which is common for uncirculated First Day Covers. The printing, colors, and typography are clear, with no major apparent defects on the visible area.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope appears well protected by a plastic sleeve. The image and postmarks are clear, with no visible tears or major alterations on the presented side.

Did you know? First Day Covers (FDCs) are issued on the occasion of the release of new stamps. The CEF (Cercle des Émissions Philatéliques Françaises) was a major player in French philately, producing limited edition illustrated envelopes since the mid-20th century, often sought after for the quality of their illustrations and postmarks.
