Description
Illustrated First Day Cover (FDC) dedicated to Jean-François Champollion, famous for deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs. The front of the envelope features a color illustration of J.-F. Champollion, accompanied by Egyptian monuments and the inscription "Anniversaire du déchiffrement des hiéroglyphes" (Anniversary of the decipherment of hieroglyphs). The entire piece is printed with sharp outlines and a neat finish, typical of French commemorative issues.
A franked postage stamp, visible on the right side, also bears Champollion's portrait and a circular cancellation "1822 Déchiffrement Champollion 16 OCT. 1982 PARIS", confirming the special issue in Paris for this anniversary. The mention "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION – FIRST DAY COVER" appears below the main illustration, with the official "FDC" stamp printed in purple, characteristic of first day philatelic envelopes.
The envelope is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve. The observed colors are dominated by cream, beige, light blue, brown, and black tones. No major defects are visible on the exposed front, and the presentation remains very clean and suitable for storage in an album or display case.
The cancellation, illustrations, and overall layout demonstrate a design specifically conceived for philatelic enthusiasts, with particular attention to the clarity of the motifs and the print quality. No other elements, such as the reverse side or internal content, are visible or described here in accordance with the provided image.
