Description

This first day cover, visible in the photo, is dedicated to Clovis in the "History of France" series. On the front, there is a printed color illustration depicting two historical figures in medieval costume, one standing, the other kneeling with an axe, a scene signed "Vachier". The inscription "Histoire de France – Clovis" appears in red and black ink at the top, while the mention "Le Vase de Soissons" specifies the theme of the illustration.

The envelope features a French stamp bearing the effigy of Clovis, with brown and gray tones, accompanied by a "Premier Jour d’Émission" (First Day of Issue) postmark dated November 5, 1966, from Reims (51). The postmark also includes a stylized drawing of Clovis. The text "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION – FIRST DAY COVER" appears on the front, confirming the philatelic nature of the item.

The visible surface is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, which shows some reflections under the light. A small white insert, marked "10F", is affixed to the bottom right of the visible front, probably related to a price or a classification reference.

The main colors are the white of the support, shades of brown, beige, red, and black for the illustration, as well as the dark tones of the stamp. The whole presents a neat layout, typical of commemorative philatelic envelopes from the 1960s.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope appears well-preserved under its plastic protection, with no visible defects on the front. No folds, stains, or tears are detectable on the visible part.

Did you know? On November 5, 1966, the French Post Office issued a series of stamps and first day covers dedicated to Clovis, King of the Franks, on the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of his baptism in Reims. FDC (First Day Cover) envelopes are prized for their unique postmark, applied only on the day of the official launch of the stamp.
