Description

As a philately professional, I analyze here a commemorative envelope, visible in the photo, presented in a protective plastic sleeve. It is a "First Day of Issue" envelope, as indicated by the red stamp in the upper left. The postage bears an illustrated stamp, accompanied by a special postmark.

The black postmark states: "FALAISE 3-4-5 JUIN 9th CENTENARY OF THE BATTLE OF HASTINGS", indicating that this envelope was issued during an official commemoration in Falaise, probably for the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings. The stamp shows an illustration of medieval ships, in keeping with the historical theme. The envelope is addressed to "SCOTEM, 5 Rue Lamartine, PARIS IXe", an inscription at the bottom right.

The visible side shows a neat presentation, with no mention of handwriting or major flaws on the exposed area. The plastic sleeve ensures good preservation and limits visible signs of wear. The main colors are the off-white of the support, the blue and brown of the stamp, and the black and red inks of the postmarks.

The observed format is that of a classic philatelic envelope, with no dimensions estimated. No details are visible on the back or inside, in accordance with the provided view. No other stamp or marking appears on the front, apart from the described elements.

The "Premier jour d'émission" (First Day of Issue) lettering in red and the special postmark are sought-after elements in thematic philately, guaranteeing the authenticity of the envelope's circulation context. The whole presents a sober aesthetic, typical of official French issues of the 20th century.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible envelope is protected by a plastic sleeve; no major apparent flaws on the front. Slight traces related to handling or storage may be present without affecting the overall presentation.

Did you know? The Battle of Hastings, celebrated here by this philatelic issue, took place in 1066 and marks a major turning point in European history. "First Day" envelopes are issued in limited quantities during philatelic or commemorative events, and bear a specific postmark on their official release date.
