Description

Illustrated philatelic envelope, visible in a protective plastic sleeve. This First Day Cover (FDC) honors Bertrand Du Guesclin, an emblematic figure in French history. On the left side, a colorful illustration features a portrait of Du Guesclin in armor, accompanied by a medieval scene and heraldic details. The inscription "LES GRANDS NOMS DE L’HISTOIRE DE FRANCE" (THE GREAT NAMES IN FRENCH HISTORY) appears at the top, while "Du Guesclin" and "PREMIER JOUR D’EMISSION / FIRST DAY COVER" are at the bottom left.

On the right, the envelope features a French postage stamp, canceled with a first day postmark dated May 13, 1987, bearing the inscription "DU GUESCLIN PREMIER JOUR CHATEAU DU GUESCLIN" (DU GUESCLIN FIRST DAY CHATEAU DU GUESCLIN). The stamp depicts a medieval scene, likely related to Du Guesclin, and includes blue and green details. The visible address area shows the handwritten inscription "ILF".

The overall presentation is neat, with the envelope inserted into a transparent sleeve. The colors of the illustration are well preserved, and the main inscriptions are legible. No major defects are visible on the exposed side. The ensemble highlights both the historical iconography and the philatelic dimension of the object.

The inscriptions "MODELE DEPOSE EXCLUSIVITE CEF" (REGISTERED DESIGN CEF EXCLUSIVE), "PREMIER JOUR D’EMISSION" (FIRST DAY OF ISSUE), and "FIRST DAY COVER" attest to the special edition of this envelope, typical of French commemorative issues. The graphic composition, postmark, and stamp enhance its appeal for collectors of thematic philately and French history.
