Description

Illustrated First Day Cover (FDC), visible in a protective plastic sleeve. The visual features a colorful illustration depicting a 1914 French soldier in a blue uniform, blowing a trumpet, in front of a stylized Marne taxi, in homage to the fiftieth anniversary of the "Marne taxis" gathering in Gagny during World War I. The illustration bears the inscription "Robert Delacroix" as the artist's signature.

Two round post office cancellations are clearly visible, indicating "PREMIER JOUR GAGNY" (First Day Gagny) and the date "1964". The stamp affixed at the top right also features the theme of the Marne taxi and the inscription "République Française". Several commemorative inscriptions are printed: "1914-1964", "Fiftieth anniversary of the gathering of the Marne taxis in Gagny" as well as historical details related to the event.

The envelope has an off-white appearance with a multicolored illustration and neat typography. A marking at the bottom right indicates "10F". The whole is held in a transparent sleeve, suggesting careful preservation of the item.

The graphic details, crisp printing, and the presence of the first-day cancellation make this a sought-after philatelic item for first-day cover enthusiasts, postal history buffs, and military thematic collectors. The visible side shows no major apparent defects, apart from some reflections related to the plastic sleeve.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope appears to be in good overall condition on the visible side, protected by a plastic sleeve. Slight reflections or handling marks on the sleeve, nothing altering the readability or aesthetics of the item.

On September 7, 1914, more than 600 Parisian taxis were requisitioned to transport soldiers to the Marne front, an episode that became emblematic of the history of World War I and national mobilization.
