Illustrated first day cover on the theme of chess, issued for a philatelic event dated April 2, 1966, in Le Havre. The visible side features a colorful artistic illustration highlighting a stylized black knight chess piece on a blue and white chessboard, with a modern graphic design. The title "JEUX D’ÉCHECS" (CHESS) is printed at the top of the envelope.

The right side of the envelope features several official postmarks: a round black postmark bearing the inscription "JEU D’ÉCHECS PREMIER JOUR 2 AVRIL 66 76 LE HAVRE" (CHESS FIRST DAY APRIL 2 66 76 LE HAVRE) accompanied by a drawing of a knight and crowns, as well as a green "FIRST DAY COVER" postmark with the inscription "COUVERTE PREMIER JOUR" in French and English.
