This First Day Cover (FDC) is dedicated to the prehistoric Lascaux Cave, an emblematic site of French archaeological heritage. On the front, the envelope features a polychrome illustration depicting a scene from the Lascaux cave, notably a cow with a black head and red body, typical of the site's cave paintings.

The inscription "GROTTE DE LASCAUX" is clearly visible at the top right of the main illustration, along with the mention "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION / FIRST DAY COVER" in red at the bottom left. Two postmarks are affixed, indicating "GROTTE PREHISTORIQUE DE LASCAUX 24. MONTIGNAC 13 AVR. 68 PREMIER JOUR". A stamp matching the main illustration, also showing a cave scene, is visible on the right.

The entire envelope is protected in a transparent plastic sleeve, which has preserved the original colors and graphic details. The background of the envelope is white, with thin borders and text printed in black and red, true to the philatelic style of the 1960s.

The visual highlights the iconographic richness of the Lascaux paintings, with prehistoric animal motifs and details evoking parietal art. The layout and graphics are characteristic of French First Day Issues of this period.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope appears in good overall condition, well protected in a plastic sleeve. No folds or tears are visible on the front; the colors are well preserved. The sleeve shows some superficial reflections or creases, without affecting the envelope itself.
