Mediterranean Mouflon First Day Cover 1969 Philately Stamp FDC
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description This illustrated envelope is a "First Day Cover" (FDC) dedicated to the Mediterranean Mouflon. On the visible side, there is a large color stamp depicting a brown mouflon, framed by a golden border. The animal is shown in profile, against a rocky background, with its characteristic visible spiral horns.
The envelope bears several circular black postmarks, one of which reads "MOUFLON MEDITERRANEEN / PREMIER JOUR / 11 OCT. 1969 / PARIS". A second postmark also shows the date October 11, 1969, and a stylized drawing of the mouflon's head. The inscriptions "PREMIER JOUR D’EMISSION" and "FIRST DAY COVER" are printed on the bottom left of the front side.
The whole is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, which covers the visible side. In the bottom right corner, a small handwritten label indicates "10F". The overall presentation is neat, with elements typical of commemorative philatelic envelopes: animal illustration, matching stamp, specific postmarks, and bilingual inscriptions.
The cardboard surface of the envelope has a smooth, white appearance, with no additional apparent decoration. The printing of the stamp and postmarks is clear, with good legibility of texts and patterns. No major defects are visible on the shown part, apart from some reflections related to the plastic protection.
This type of item is aimed at enthusiasts of animal thematic philately or French First Day Covers, and is a representative piece of commemorative issues from the late 1960s.
Condition Used item, sold as is. Visible side in good overall condition, clear stamp and postmarks, original plastic protection present. Some signs of handling or reflections on the plastic, without affecting the integrity of the envelope.
Did you know? The Mediterranean Mouflon (Ovis orientalis musimon) is an emblematic animal of European wildlife, introduced to Corsica in Roman times and reintroduced to mainland France in the 20th century. First Day Covers, or FDCs, are items created to mark the first official circulation of a stamp, and always bear a postmark dated the day of issue.
