Description

This illustrated envelope is a French "first day cover" (FDC) dedicated to Ronchamp. The front features a fine black engraving depicting the iconic Notre-Dame-du-Haut chapel in Ronchamp, a major work of modern architecture. The drawing occupies the left side of the envelope and highlights the chapel's distinctive undulating roof, as well as the surrounding vegetation.

In the upper right corner, the envelope displays a "first day" canceled French postage stamp, whose main visual theme echoes the architectural subject. The round postmark reads "PREMIER JOUR" (FIRST DAY), followed by "RONCHAMP (Hte Saône)" and the legible date of "13 JUIN 1965" (JUNE 13, 1965). The stamp, in blue-grey tones, matches the illustration and bears the inscription "République Française" (French Republic).

In the upper right, the printed mention "FDC" (First Day Cover) is also visible, confirming the philatelic nature of the item. The envelope is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, visible in the photo, which preserves its condition. A small handwritten or printed insert bearing the reference "10F" is affixed to the bottom right.

The inscriptions are clear, and the graphic composition highlights Ronchamp's architectural and historical theme. The overall aesthetic is understated, typical of French commemorative envelopes from the 1960s, with careful layout and quality printing.

Condition

Used item sold as is. The envelope appears in good overall condition under its plastic protection, with no major visible flaws on the presented side. Some reflections and creases are due to the sleeve.

Did you know? The Notre-Dame-du-Haut chapel in Ronchamp was designed by architect Le Corbusier and inaugurated in 1955. This site is recognized as one of the masterpieces of modern religious architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2016.
