Description

First Day Cover dedicated to the Sapporo 1972 Winter Olympics, illustrated on the front with an alpine skiing scene and the Olympic rings in color. The visual features a skier in full descent, with a blue helmet and black suit, with the mention "SAPPORO-72" at the bottom left of the illustration. The envelope has two round "PREMIER JOUR – PARIS" postmarks dated February 5, 1972, typical of official philatelic issues.

The text printed at the bottom right of the visible side mentions "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION – FIRST DAY COVER", clearly identifiable in red letters, which confirms that it is a philatelic FDC (First Day Cover). The central postmark features a graphic skier motif, in keeping with the theme of the Winter Olympics, and the legend "JEUX OLYMPIQUES D’HIVER – SAPPORO 1972".

The envelope is kept in a transparent plastic sleeve, which effectively protects the surface and preserves its general condition. A small white insert, visible at the bottom right, bears the handwritten or printed mention "105", probably an internal reference or a classification number.

The item presents a clean and neat appearance, with no major visible defects on the front. The colors of the illustration remain vibrant, the inscriptions are clear, and the postmarks are well defined. No signs of alteration, stains, or creases are observable on the exposed part.

This type of first-day cover, also known as FDC (First Day Cover), is sought after in philately for its thematic illustration, the issue date, and the official postmarks associated with the represented event.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The envelope is protected in a plastic sleeve. The visible front has no major defects; colors and postmarks are well preserved.

Did you know? First Day Covers (FDC) are issued on the official release of a stamp or series, with a commemorative postmark dated the first day of sale. The Sapporo 1972 Olympic Games marked the first winter edition held in Asia, and numerous FDCs were produced on this occasion for philatelists worldwide.
