Description

Illustrated philatelic envelope, known as a "first day of issue" cover, visible under plastic protection. The visual features a colored illustration of Thann's historic center (Haut-Rhin), with an Alsatian village motif, a river in the foreground, and the recognizable spire of Saint-Thiébaut Church. In the upper right corner is the Thann coat of arms, with its distinctive heraldry on a red and white background, accompanied by the inscription "PREMIER JOUR D’ÉMISSION F.D.C. N°286 HISTORIQUE" printed in red.

A circular black postal cancellation mark reads "PREMIER JOUR CENTENAIRE DE THANN LE JUIL 61 THANN (HAUT-RHIN)"—it is therefore a commemorative envelope issued for the centenary of the city, typical of French FDCs (First Day Covers). The address side also shows a handwritten signature or annotation "1 OF" in the lower right. A gold logo is visible in the lower left, probably that of the publisher or postal service, but it is not clearly legible in this image.

The front of the envelope stands out for its carefully crafted illustration in vibrant colors (mainly sky blue, green, and red), and for the presence of several printed mentions, which enhances its appeal for thematic philately (cities, coats of arms, Alsatian heritage). The overall condition appears very good on the visible side, with no marked creases or apparent stains, although the presence of the plastic film may obscure some minor details. No stamp is clearly visible on this side, but the first day cancellation mark is present.

The presentation under plastic protection suggests careful preservation, suitable for philatelic items. The illustrated part occupies approximately the left half of the envelope, with a balanced composition between the image, the coat of arms, and the texts.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. Visible side in good general condition, no tears or major creases. Possible presence of minor signs of wear or imperfections not visible under the plastic film. The envelope is protected in a transparent sleeve.

Did you know? "First Day of Issue" (FDC) envelopes are specially issued to commemorate the release of a new stamp or a particular postal event. The city of Thann, in Haut-Rhin, is renowned for its medieval heritage and its Collegiate Church of Saint-Thiébaut, a masterpiece of Rhenish Gothic art. Regional themed FDCs are sought after for their iconography and the quality of their illustrations.
