Description
This CEF (Cercle des Émission de France) philatelic souvenir sheet commemorates the first ascent of Mont Aiguille in 1492, a significant event in the history of mountaineering. The visible side features a color illustration depicting a group of figures climbing the mountain, with the distinctive summit of Mont Aiguille in the background. The artwork is signed by Marie-Noëlle Goffin, a painter, as noted in the bottom right corner of the sheet.
The sheet includes a franked postage stamp, illustrated with the silhouette of Mont Aiguille, accompanied by a commemorative cancellation dated "26 Juin 1992" (June 26, 1992) in Chichilianne, visible in black on the left side of the stamp. The printed text details the exploit of Antoine de Ville, who, assisted by a ladder specialist, reached the summit on June 26, 1492, by order of King Charles VIII. Several paragraphs recount the history and significance of this event for mountaineering.
The sheet features a meticulous layout, with a black border, clear typography, and distinct text areas. On the left, the official CEF (Cercle des Émission de France) markings and the limited edition number "3343" are clearly visible. The paper has a matte finish, with no apparent reflections in the photo.
The visible side shows no tears, major creases, or obvious stains; the cut appears clean. The inscriptions are legible, and the overall presentation is neat, typical of CEF productions intended for philatelists and postal history enthusiasts.

Did you know? Mont Aiguille, located in the Vercors region, was long considered inaccessible.
