Description

This illustrated sheet presents a CEF (Courrier d'Entreprise à la Française) edition dedicated to the artist Antoni Tàpies, a major figure in Spanish contemporary art. On the visible side, the sheet features a graphic work by Tàpies, reproduced in dominant yellow, black, and brown colors, accompanied by a detailed biography printed in French. The name "ANTONI TÀPIES" is displayed at the top, highlighting the subject of the sheet.

To the right, a reproduction of the work occupies a quarter of the sheet, surmounted by the mention "ESPAGNE" (SPAIN) in white on a yellow background. Directly below, a matching stamp, with a face value of 5.00, features the same graphic motif. A "First Day" postmark dated April 23, 1999, in Paris, including Tàpies' stylized signature, is also visible.

The printed text sheds light on Tàpies' career and artistic approach, evoking his interest in concrete abstraction, his use of atypical materials, and his influence on post-war art in Europe. The clear and structured presentation of the sheet makes it a philatelic item of choice for the theme of contemporary art.

On the left border of the sheet, the mentions "Édition CEF," "Service Philatélique des PTT," as well as a handwritten numbering "5776," attesting to a limited print run, can be seen. The whole is printed on a smooth cardboard support, typical of CEF issues.

The printing quality highlights the contrasts of Tàpies' work as well as the sharpness of the texts, offering a beautiful balance between the artistic and informative parts. The general presentation is neat, with regular margins and a professional layout.

Did you know? Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012) is recognized as one of the founders of European Art Informel. He developed a technique mixing traditional materials with unusual elements, such as sand or marble dust, to create works with strong tactile expressiveness. His creations are exhibited in numerous museums worldwide, including the Antoni Tàpies Foundation in Barcelona.
