Description

This illustrated sheet, published by CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie), features a theme centered around the "Carnival of Venice in Paris". On the visible side, the sheet highlights a large central illustration signed by Philippe Favier, depicting a masked and costumed character, typical of the Venetian carnival imaginary. The scene, treated in a contemporary graphic style with solid blocks of color (red, yellow, black, white), evokes the festive and theatrical tradition of the carnival, while playing on the symbolism of masks and comedy.

The sheet is printed on smooth cardboard, framed by a dark line, and surrounded by explanatory text on the left and right. This text details the history and significance of the Venice Carnival, its adaptation to Paris, and the place of this event in French culture.

On the right side, an official postmarked postage stamp can be seen, accompanied by a specific "Carnaval Vénitien à Paris" first-day cancellation. A printed medallion with the inscription "Carnaval Vénitien à Paris - Premier jour Paris", surrounding stylized coat of arms, is also present. The upper part of the sheet is titled in capital letters "CARNAVAL VENISE A PARIS".

In the bottom left, the indication "5199" corresponds to the individual number of the sheet, with a mention of the limited edition. The perforation on the left side and the mention "N° 798 du catalogue CEF" attest to the official philatelic edition, typical of CEF sheets intended for stamp and First Day Cover collectors.

The overall item is in good visual condition, with no major apparent defects on the presented side. The colors of the illustration remain vibrant, and the texts are perfectly legible. This sheet is a representative example of contemporary commemorative philately, combining graphic art and postal publishing.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side shows no notable wear, no apparent stains or folds.

Did you know? CEF sheets are published in limited and numbered series, with each copy designed to accompany an official First Day issue. They often combine historical text, an original illustration, and the postmarked stamp, thus creating a hybrid document between philately and graphic art.
