Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie), pays tribute to the French Gendarmerie Nationale. The visible side features a carefully composed design, centered on a color illustration of a period gendarme, a work signed by Jacques IUBERT (mentioned as a painter-engraver and the stamp's designer). The drawing, with its distinct lines and blue, red, yellow, and black tones, evokes the traditional engraving style, with precise details on the character's uniform, bicorne, and saber.

To the right of the illustration, a printed text traces the history and evolution of the gendarmerie in France, from its medieval origins to the contemporary period. The entire piece is printed on a white cardboard sheet, with a thin gray border, typical of CEF presentations.

In the bottom right, the sheet features a 2.50 franc postage stamp bearing the effigy of the Gendarmerie Nationale, accompanied by a legible round cancellation mark "17 Juin 1995 – Premier Jour – Gendarmerie Nationale – Paris", confirming the First Day issue. The stamp echoes the theme of the sheet, in graphic coherence with the main illustration.

The sheet also shows a serial number printed in the bottom left (3066), indicating a limited edition, characteristic of CEF issues. On the left margin, there are mentions relating to the CEF catalog and the print run limitation.

This type of sheet, also known as a "First Day Cover" or "FDC," is sought after for the quality of its philatelic presentation and the richness of its historical information. The overall condition appears very good on the visible side, with no major signs of folds, stains, or apparent tears.
