Description

This First Day Cover (FDC), issued by CEF, honors the historical figure of Louise Michel (1830-1905) in the "Hommage aux Femmes" (Tribute to Women) series. The central part of the sheet features a colorful illustration of Louise Michel, created by Huguette Sainson, who also designed the issued stamp. The illustration combines several female portraits in a distinctive graphic style, set against a background of brown, gray, and beige hues. The black frame highlights the overall composition.

The sheet includes a postage stamp featuring Louise Michel, with a face value of 1.80 francs, canceled with a first-day postmark bearing the inscription "Hommage aux Femmes – Paris." The stamp reuses the main portrait, accompanied by a stylized signature and clear caption. To the right of the sheet, a printed biographical text details the commitment of Louise Michel, an activist, woman of letters, and a key figure of the Paris Commune.

In the left margin, the technical details of the CEF issue are displayed: "Édition CEF," catalog number "807 S," as well as the individual item number "3071." The printing on white paper provides a sharp contrast with the central frame. This sheet is typical of late 20th-century French commemorative philatelic issues, with a meticulous and informative presentation.

The visible side shows no tears or apparent signs of moisture. The corners of the sheet appear crisp, with no major folds visible in the photograph. The printing of the text and illustrations is well-centered and legible, with classic typography. The cancellation mark is clear and positioned on the stamp and the upper right margin, confirming its authenticity as a first-day issue.

This sheet appeals to both collectors of thematic philately (tribute to women, historical figures) and those interested in French social history. It is an emblematic item highlighting a great female figure of 19th-century history.

Condition

Used item sold as is, as visible in the photograph. Some minor handling wear may be present, but no major alterations are visible on the presented side.
