Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Connaissance et Enthousiasme Philatélique), honors Paul Héroult, a prominent figure in French industrial history. On the left side, an artistic color portrait of Paul Héroult, signed Oulivie, takes center stage. Below the portrait are chemical formulas and a stylized illustration of a metallurgical crucible, referring to his work on aluminum. The sheet bears the inscription "Les Hommes Célèbres – Paul HEROUILT" (Famous Men – Paul HEROUILT).

To the right of the sheet, a detailed biographical text traces Paul Héroult's career and inventions, notably his contribution to aluminum electrolysis. A 2.20 F postage stamp featuring Paul Héroult (with the same portrait as on the sheet) is affixed and canceled with a "Premier Jour 22 FEV. 1986 THURY HARCOURT" (First Day 22 FEB. 1986 THURY HARCOURT) postmark.

The sheet features a meticulous composition with a brown frame, crisp printing, and well-contrasted colors (green, brown, black, beige). The CEF catalog issue number 803 is visible on the side border, with a mention of a limited edition and the individual numbering "5443" at the bottom left of the page.

The visible face shows no chips, creases, or apparent stains. The printing and paper quality appear intact. The layout highlights both the artistic and informative aspects, typical of commemorative sheets published by the CEF.

The sheet is illustrated by René Oulivie, Grand Prix de Rome in engraving, who also designed the issued stamp.
