CEF Louise Weiss 1893-1983 Philately First Day Cancellation Sheet
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Detailed description
This illustrated philatelic sheet is dedicated to Louise Weiss (1893-1983), a prominent figure of the 20th century, and highlights her commitment to Europe and women's rights. The sheet, presented in a transparent plastic sleeve with three perforations, displays a stylized watercolor of Louise Weiss on the left, signed by the artist Huguette Sainson, with stars reminiscent of the European flag in the background. The right side of the sheet features a detailed biographical text printed in black, titled "LOUISE WEISS 1893-1983".
In the lower left corner of the sheet, there is a French stamp bearing the effigy of Louise Weiss, with a face value of 2.50 F, with a "first day" postmark dated May 15, 1999, in Paris. The postmark includes the text: "Louise Weiss 1893-1983, l'Europe, le vote des femmes, Premier jour 15 mai 1999 Paris" (Louise Weiss 1893-1983, Europe, women's vote, First day May 15, 1999 Paris).
The sheet is made of white cardboard, with a thin brown frame. On the left side strip, several technical inscriptions are visible: "N° 1119 du catalogue CEF" (No. 1119 of the CEF catalog), "Société d’Études Philatéliques et de l’Épargne des PTT" (Philatelic and Savings Study Society of the PTT), as well as the mention "Tirage limité" (Limited edition). An individual copy number "5551" is printed at the bottom left of the support.
This sheet highlights the commemorative and historical aspect of French philately, with a neat layout and clear printing. The presentation in a sleeve effectively protects the sheet, which is common for CEF (Courrier d’Entreprise Philatélique) editions.
