Description

This CEF philatelic sheet presents a selection of French stamps featuring "Marianne" and "Sabine," two iconic figures in national philately. The visible side displays a meticulously arranged composition on a cardboard backing, with a large, stylized visual of the blue Marianne 0.70 FRANCE stamp on the right, and a series of twelve authentic postage stamps, each clearly identified by its designer or engraver (Dulac, Decaris, Gandon, Müller, Cocteau, La NEF, Cheffer, Béquet). The stamps are set against a light blue background, with their year of creation indicated (1944 to 1976 for Marianne, 1979 for Sabine).

The lower part of the sheet features four "Sabine" stamps of different colors, postmarked with "First Day" cancels dated May 19, 1979. The cancellations are crisp and well-centered, adding further philatelic appeal to the set. The other stamps, uncanceled, illustrate the evolution of French republican effigies over several decades.

The sheet is referenced as "N° 510 Spécial du catalogue CEF" on the left side strip. The mention "Limited edition of 20,000, including 11,000 offset, 9,000 silk" and the individual number "5461" are printed at the bottom left, confirming its limited edition status. The backing has a matte finish with quality printing, typical of CEF productions.

At the top, the titles "Type Marianne" and "Type Sabine 1979" are clearly visible, structuring the presentation. An explanatory text appears on the lower right, contextualizing the creation of this artistic sheet and its limited edition nature. No defects, creases, or stains are visible on the photographed side; the visual condition is clean and well-preserved.

Did you know? CEF (Créations Éditions Philatéliques Françaises) sheets are renowned for their limited editions and thematic presentations of French stamps. "Marianne" has been a recurring figure in French philately since 1944, symbolizing the Republic on numerous stamps. The "Sabine" type, created in 1977 by Pierre Gandon, was used on French mail until 1982, marking a major stylistic transition in postal history.
