AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This illustrated sheet, offered by CEF, features a selection of French stamps dedicated to the "Marianne" and "Sabine" types, iconic figures in national postal history. On the visible side, the sheet is inserted into a three-hole punched plastic sleeve, typical of CEF editions for collectors. The main part displays, on the left, ten "Marianne" stamps from different engravers and periods (Dulac 1944, Decaris 1960, Gandon 1945, Muller 1955, Cocteau 1961, la NEF 1959, Cheffer 1969, Béquet 1976), each reproduced in color and accompanied by the reference year. On the right, a large stylized illustration of a blue "FRANCE 0,70" stamp occupies a central position, with a portrait of Béquet's Marianne.
At the bottom of the sheet, five "Sabine" type stamps (1979) are aligned, three of which bear a legible cancellation "PHILATELIQUE 23 RUE D... 1979 PARIS CEDEX 15". The stamp colors vary: blue, green, red, violet, brown, illustrating the diversity of French postal issues. The background of the sheet is pale blue, enhanced with a gold frame, giving the whole a neat and elegant appearance, suitable for philatelic presentation. A printed notice at the bottom right explains the peculiarity of this special issue, intended for subscription sale and not for general sale.
On the left margin, the mentions "CEF", "Feuille artistique" (Artistic Sheet), "N° 510 Spécial", as well as the copy number "5411", and the mention of a limited print run of 20,000 copies, are visible. The editorial information specifies that this sheet was printed by CEF editions in Nice, and that it is a special edition, not intended for general sale.
The meticulous presentation, the diversity of the reproduced stamps, and the emphasis on French postal history make this sheet an ideal medium for showcasing the "Marianne" series and the "Sabine" series. The visible cancellations on three of the "Sabine" stamps attest to an event-based philatelic issue, in accordance with CEF practices.
