CEF Philately Sheet Raymond Gid Typography 5.00 F stamp canceled
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Detailed description
This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Cercle des Émissions Philatéliques de France), highlights the theme of typography. The visible side presents an explanatory text on typography, printed in black on a white background, with the title "LA TYPOGRAPHIE" in shadowed capital letters. To the right of the text, a clear-line artistic illustration, signed Raymond Gid, depicts a stylized profile enhanced with touches of blue and pink, evoking graphic design and typographical art.
In the bottom right corner of the sheet, a 5.00 franc French postage stamp, issued for the occasion, is cancelled with a round postmark bearing the inscription "TYPOGRAPHIE - PARIS". The stamp incorporates the motif of the sheet, integrating the letter "a" in red and part of the stylized portrait, creating a harmonious visual effect between illustration and philately.
The sheet is presented in a transparent sleeve with three side perforations, typical of CEF editions, with printed mentions on the left margin: "N° 808 du catalogue CEF", "IMPRIMÉ SUR FEUILLE EN SOIE" (PRINTED ON SILK SHEET), "TIRAGE DE L'ÉMISSION LIMITÉ À : 3080 EXEMPLAIRES" (ISSUE PRINT RUN LIMITED TO: 3080 COPIES). The individual number "3080" is visible in the bottom left. Several other editing and production details are inscribed in the margin, confirming the authenticity of the issue.
The main text, which is clearly legible, details the history and techniques of typography, mentioning major figures such as Gutenberg, Jean Fust, Pierre Schoeffer, and Aldus Manutius, and famous typefaces such as Garamond, Elzevir, Baskerville, and Didot. The mention at the bottom of the sheet indicates that Raymond Gid, poster designer and typographical master, is the author of the design and figuration of the sheet.
The sheet features an elegant layout, typical of CEF philatelic productions, with a sober border and a balance between informative text and artistic illustration. No major defects are visible on the presented side; the sleeve effectively protects the sheet.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. The visible side is in very good condition, with no apparent stains or creases. The protective sleeve shows some minor signs of wear, without affecting the sheet.
