Description

This CEF philatelic sheet pays tribute to the Solutré site, a famous geological formation located near Mâcon. On the visible side, there is a carefully composed image including a postage stamp illustrated with a view of the Rock of Solutré, with a face value of 3.80, accompanied by a First Day cancellation bearing the inscription "Solutré Pouilly". The whole is presented on a white cardboard sheet, with a black frame and a black and white photograph of the Rock of Solutré on the right, bordered by a discreet graphic motif.

At the top left, the title "SOLUTRÉ" is printed in capital letters. The stamp, predominantly brown and beige, features the emblematic silhouette of the rock, while the circular cancellation also reproduces this motif accompanied by the inscription "Solutré Pouilly". The text printed at the bottom left traces the history of the site, its major archaeological discoveries, and its importance during prehistory.

The sheet has a perforation on the left edge, typical of CEF editions for binder filing. On the margin, there are the edition mentions: "Émission CEF", "Imprimé en France", as well as the CEF catalog number (N° 789) and the individual sheet number (8569). The print run of the issue is indicated: 33,800 copies, including 20,300 offset and 13,500 on silk.

The visual condition of the sheet is good: the surface appears clean, without visible stains, folds, or tears in the photo. The impressions are clear, the stamp and cancellation well-centered. The photograph of the Rock of Solutré is well-contrasted, without noticeable alteration.
