Description

This philatelic sheet, published by CEF, pays tribute to Pierre Alechinsky, a major figure in contemporary art and the Cobra movement. It features a central color composition, inspired by an original work by the artist, with sinuous red forms on a green and gray background, evoking both abstraction and calligraphy. The sheet includes a detailed biographical text about Pierre Alechinsky, printed on the right, with his name as the title. The entire piece is organized on a white background page, with a thin border framing the illustration and text.

In the bottom left of the sheet, a 5.00 franc postage stamp is integrated, reproducing the main graphic motif of the artwork. It includes the mention "Pierre Alechinsky œuvre" as well as "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and the face value "500". The stamp bears a First Day cancellation, dated October 12, 1996, in Paris, with the mention "PIERRE ALECHINSKY 1er JOUR PARIS" in a black circle.

The left part of the sheet features the official CEF publication mentions, specifying that it is a numbered edition, distributed by the CEF commercial network in France and abroad. The visible copy number in the bottom left is "10945".

The design of the sheet highlights Alechinsky's distinctive visual codes: organic lines, superimpositions, and calligraphic plays, all in a palette dominated by green, red, and black. The print is clear, with no visible defects on the presented side. The entire piece is presented flat, with no signs of creases, tears, or apparent stains on the visible side.

The biographical text is printed in black, with a sober typography. It details Pierre Alechinsky's career, his training, his affiliation with the Cobra group, and his contribution to contemporary art, while emphasizing the uniqueness of his graphic language.
