CEF First Day Sheet UNESCO 1984 Lalibela Kotor Cancelled Stamps
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This illustrated sheet, from the CEF edition, celebrates UNESCO World Heritage through a theme dedicated to Lalibela (Ethiopia) and the Kotor region (Montenegro). The sheet features a large color illustration of the monolithic Church of Saint George in Lalibela, signed by René Quillivic, framed by a wide vertical white margin with the inscription "UNESCO" in capital letters.
On the left side of the sheet, two "First Day" cancelled stamps dated October 20, 1984 in Paris are affixed vertically. The round "PREMIER JOUR UNESCO" postmarks are clearly visible and legible. The stamps feature architectural illustrations related to world heritage, with dominant blue, brown, and ochre colors, corresponding to the UNESCO theme. A third stamp, also cancelled, is located below the first two, for a total of three stamps on the visible side.
The printed text below the illustration details the cultural and historical specificities of Lalibela and Kotor, highlighting their inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1984. The text is written in French, with precise information on the represented sites. The central illustration, rendered in a palette of browns and greens, is signed "Quillivic" in the lower left corner.
The sheet is inserted in a transparent plastic sleeve, typical of CEF presentations, with the CEF catalog reference visible on the left margin ("N° 748 du catalogue CEF"). A print run number (11157) is printed in the lower left, indicating a limited series. On the side strip, there is also the mention "CEF" and information about the publisher.
The format is rectangular, flat, and the overall appearance is neat, suitable for philatelic preservation. No major defects appear on the visible side: no apparent stains, creases, or tears. The presentation highlights both the stamps, the cancellations, and the central illustration.
