CEF Leaflet Sailing Ship Terre-Neuvas Emerald Coast Post Office stamp philately
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This CEF philatelic sheet features the Terre-Neuvas sailing ship "Côte d'Émeraude". Presented on a white cardboard backing with a gray frame, it includes a watercolor illustration of a three-masted ship sailing at sea, signed in the lower left, which occupies the left side of the sheet. To the right, an explanatory text traces the history of cod fishing by French Terre-Neuvas, detailing the role of these emblematic sailing ships in crossing the Atlantic and fishing off Newfoundland.
The sheet includes a French 0.90 franc postage stamp illustrating the same sailing ship in blue-gray tones, canceled with a Saint-Malo First Day postmark dated May 15, 1982. This composition highlights the association between maritime illustration, thematic philately, and naval history.
On the left side of the sheet, there is the mention "N° 200 of the CEF Catalog", as well as the individual numbering "N° 11985" in the lower left. The sheet also includes CEF edition mentions, reference to the limited edition, and the mention "Hôtel des Postes - Nice".
The visible side shows no apparent defects: no folds, no stains, and no visible snags on the surface, with the text and illustrations remaining clear and well-contrasted. The lateral perforations suggest a format suitable for filing in a philatelic binder. The whole offers a neat visual appearance, ideal for stamp and maritime history enthusiasts.
The printed text details the history of the Côte d'Émeraude, evoking its dimensions, its fishing campaigns, as well as the evolution of French cod fishing. Particular emphasis is placed on the tradition of the Terre-Neuvas and the symbolism of these ships returning to Saint-Malo.

Did you know? The Côte d'Émeraude was one of the last large cod fishing sailing ships used by French shipowners. It was built in 1925 and sailed until 1941. Its last captain, Alain Gerbault, was also famous for his solo sailing exploits.
