Description

This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Cercle des Émetteurs de France), celebrates the World Fencing Championships held in Clermont-Ferrand in 1981. The item features an elegant layout, centered on a stylized illustration of three fencers in action, rendered in shades of black, white, and dark green, with a touch of red in the background. The dynamic graphic captures the movement and intensity of the sport, highlighting the fencers' posture and equipment.

In the bottom left of the sheet, a postage stamp with a face value of 1.80 francs depicts a fencing scene, accompanied by a First Day postmark dated June 27, 1981, in Clermont-Ferrand. The postmark reiterates the fencer motif and includes the event's mention, adding further philatelic value to the set.

Around the main illustration, a sober golden frame highlights the whole. The sheet also includes an explanatory text detailing the history and importance of fencing, French participation, and the artistic technique used for the stamp's engraving. The artist's name, Jacques Jubert, is mentioned as the engraver and designer of the stamp.

The background of the sheet is white, with clear printing and elegant typography. The edges are straight, and the sheet appears well-preserved, with no visible alteration on the presented side. The inscriptions are perfectly legible, notably the title "CHAMPIONNATS DU MONDE D’ESCRIME" at the top and the technical details on the right.

The sheet's reference is visible on the left margin: N° 592 S from the CEF catalog / N° 413/3 series. The copy number 9741 is printed in the bottom left, indicating a limited edition.
