Description
This illustrated philatelic sheet, published by CEF, features the Château de Biron, located in the Dordogne region. On the front, a large artistic illustration of the castle covers most of the surface, accompanied by an explanatory text in French about the site's history and architecture. The image shows a detailed view of the castle, highlighting its ramparts, towers, and various wings, with a color palette dominated by brown, red, black, and gray tones, evoking the stone and tiles of the region.
In the upper right, an affixed postage stamp is integrated into the composition, also bearing the inscription "CHATEAU DE BIRON Dordogne" and a commemorative postmark. The illustration on the sheet is signed by Claude Durrens, an engraver, as indicated in the text printed on the item. The sheet features a meticulous layout, typical of French thematic philatelic issues, with a text box recounting the history of the Lords of Biron and the fortress.
The sheet also includes a visible numbering in the lower left ("4312"), suggesting a limited edition, as well as a reference to the CEF (Cercle des Émissions de France), an organization specializing in philatelic souvenirs. On the left, institutional and technical information (print run, catalog, legal notices) is printed in black on a white background.
The printed text describes the castle's construction starting from the 12th century, the different families who occupied it, as well as its historical and architectural importance. The entire piece is presented on a cardboard support, with a matte finish and crisp printing.
