Description

This philatelic sheet published by CEF honors the Cordouan lighthouse, located at the mouth of the Gironde estuary. On the visible side, there is a carefully composed arrangement featuring an artistic illustration of the lighthouse by Jacques Gauthier, as well as a franked and cancelled stamp from "Le Verdon-sur-Mer". The sheet displays the title "CORDOUAN" in capital letters at the top, accompanied on the left by the associated stamp and its first day postmark, and on the right by a pictorial reproduction of the monument on a blue and black background.

The text printed below the illustration details the history and technique of the Cordouan lighthouse, highlighting its architectural and maritime importance. The printing is clear, with black characters on a white background, and the edges of the sheet are outlined with a fine line. The whole is presented in a transparent plastic sleeve, with a numbered CEF card (1528) and publication details on the left margin visible in the background.

The overall visual presentation is typical of thematic philatelic sheets, with an elegant layout that showcases the stamp, cancellation, and explanatory text. The presence of the CEF logo and official mentions on the backing card confirms the certified publication of this philatelic product.

The black and white stamp also depicts the Cordouan lighthouse. The circular cancellation bears the inscription "PHARE DE CORDOUAN" and the visible date, which reinforces the commemorative aspect of the set. The central illustration, signed by Jacques Gauthier, brings an original artistic touch, with shades of blue, green, and black evoking the sea and night.

This CEF sheet is aimed at enthusiasts of thematic philately and highlights French heritage through an emblematic monument. The meticulous presentation and the choice of visual elements make it an ideal medium for showcasing a collection on lighthouses or the postal history of France.
