AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This CEF philatelic sheet honors Esmeralda, an emblematic character from Victor Hugo's novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." The rectangular presentation features a central illustration of Victor Hugo in front of Notre Dame's Gothic architecture, executed in a contemporary graphic style. The title "ESMERALDA" appears at the top, in stylized red letters, immediately recognizable.
The sheet presents a detailed text recounting Esmeralda's tragic history and fate, accompanied by a evocation of the novel's literary and historical context. The quality printing, on smooth cardboard with a brown border, gives the whole a refined and elegant appearance.
In the bottom right, an illustrated postage stamp dedicated to Esmeralda is integrated, canceled with a round "Esmeralda Paris" postmark. This stamp, in red and green hues, shows the character of Esmeralda in a dynamic pose, adding a colorful touch to the composition. The first day cover completes the philatelic authenticity of this sheet.
On the left side, several printed mentions are visible, including the reference "N° 1668 of the CEF catalog," the mention "Limited edition," as well as the printing indication by SODOP. The presentation in a transparent plastic sleeve ensures the preservation of the sheet.
The name of the illustrator, Jean-Paul Cousin, is also indicated at the bottom of the text, adding an artistic signature to the whole. The visible side shows no apparent defect or significant sign of wear.
