AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This official CEF philatelic sheet honors the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. It features a black and white illustration signed by Jacques Gauthier, Grand Prix de Rome in Engraving and creator of the issued stamp. The main scene depicts athletes in various disciplines, set against the Olympic rings, with a red "90" marking and the vertical mention "LOS ANGELES 1984" on the left and right sides.
The sheet includes a French 4.00 franc postage stamp, illustrating the Olympic theme, canceled with the first day postmark "COMITE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIQUE 1894-1984 PARIS-LOS ANGELES 2 JUIN 1984". The stamp shows stylized athletes in action, in harmony with the sheet's aesthetic.
At the bottom, a long printed text traces the history of the Olympic Games from Greek antiquity to the modern era, emphasizing the birth of neo-Olympism in 18994 and the creation of the International Olympic Committee. The text is written in French and occupies the entire width of the sheet, providing precise historical context for this philatelic issue.
The sheet is inserted into an original transparent CEF plastic sleeve, with a perforated side band for binder storage. The CEF catalog number visible at the top left is "N° 725", and an order number "1567" appears at the bottom left of the support.
The visual stands out for its marked contrast between the black and white illustrations and the vivid red touches, as well as the quality of the engraved design. The whole testifies to a meticulous philatelic production, typical of CEF issues.
