Description

This philatelic sheet, published by the CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie), highlights the theme of engraving. On the left side, there is a color illustration depicting a woman with a strong artistic style, created by Albert Decaris. This image is accompanied by a matching stamp, with a face value of 20F, which features the same motif. The sheet also includes a "First Day" postmark dated June 8, 1984, in Versailles, clearly visible beneath the stamp.

The whole is printed on a white background, with a wide margin on the left including the CEF edition details, catalog number 726, and copy number 8126 at the bottom left. The layout is meticulous, with a brown frame around the illustration and explanatory text.

The text on the right, titled "LA GRAVURE" (ENGRAVING), traces the history and techniques of engraving in the West, mentioning its medieval origins, great artists, and evolution up to photography. At the bottom, it is stated that Albert Decaris, a member of the Institute, is behind the stamp and the illustration on the sheet.

The stamp, illustration, and "First Day" cachet are all perfectly visible and clear. The sheet is presented in a perforated plastic sleeve (visible on the left), typical of CEF editions, ensuring good preservation.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side has a very good overall appearance, with no major apparent defects, and well-preserved printing and colors.

Did you know? Albert Decaris (1901-1988) was a French master engraver, famous for having created more than 500 postage stamps for France and other countries. His refined style and expertise in engraving left a significant mark on the history of French philately.
