Description

This CEF philatelic sheet highlights typography, with a neat presentation typical of French commemorative editions. The visible side displays an explanatory text on the history and technique of typography, printed in black on a white background, with the title "LA TYPOGRAPHIE" (TYPOGRAPHY) in the upper left, in elaborate lettering. A large stylized illustration, signed Raymond Gid, occupies the right part of the sheet: it represents a facial profile drawn in fine lines, accompanied by touches of blue and pink, as well as graphic elements evoking technical drawing and printed letters.

A 5.00 franc stamp, matching the typography theme, is integrated into the sheet, in the lower right. It bears the inscription "TYPOGRAPHIE", the face value, and a reproduction of the same profile illustration, in a minimalist style. The stamp is cancelled with a legible round postmark "PARIS 1993", accompanied by the inscription "RAYMOND GID" and "TYPOGRAPHIE".

The sheet is protected by a transparent plastic sleeve, typical of CEF (Connaissance et Étude de la Philatélie Française) products, with the print reference and serial number (here, visible: 3078). On the left side of the sleeve, the inscription "CEF" is visible, as well as the mention of the limited edition of 20,300 copies, including 13,500 on silk.

The ensemble features an elegant layout, with a fine frame and neat typography. The main text details the history of typography, evoking Gutenberg, the 42-line Bible, and various type styles such as Garamond, Elzévir, or Baskerville.

The graphic design combines sobriety and modernity, with a composition that highlights both the informative text and the artistic aspect of the stamp and illustration. The overall visible condition is very good, with no apparent defects on the shown side, the sleeve ensuring good preservation of the sheet.
