Description

This philatelic sheet honors Robert Debré (1882-1978), a major figure in French medicine and a pioneer of modern pediatrics. The item presented is a commemorative document published on the occasion of a historic stamp issue in France. On the visible side, there is a drawn portrait of Robert Debré accompanied by a handwritten quote, as well as a second figure in the background, probably Hippocrates, a direct reference to the history of medicine.

The header of the sheet clearly indicates "Les Français Célèbres – Histoire du Timbre-Poste Français" (Famous French People – History of the French Postage Stamp), highlighting its nature as an official philatelic piece. The document includes a detailed biographical text tracing Robert Debré's career and contributions, particularly in the hospital sector and the reform of pediatrics in France.

In the lower part, there are two reproductions of stamps featuring Robert Debré, as well as a circular commemorative postmark bearing the inscription "ROBERT DEBRÉ 1882-1978 – SEDAN", adorned with a caduceus, a medical symbol. The whole is printed on fine-textured white paper, typical of official philatelic sheets issued by La Poste.

The overall appearance is sober, with a neat presentation and graphics typical of French commemorative issues from the late 20th century. No framing or superfluous decoration: the layout highlights the text and portrait, in a classic and institutional aesthetic.

The sheet only shows one visible side in the photo, with no reverse or apparent framing. The printed text, though dense, is legible and highlights Robert Debré's role in the founding of modern pediatrics in France, as well as his contributions to hospital and university reform.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The visible side shows good overall condition with no major apparent defects, slight blur in the photo but no chips, stains, or creases visible in the provided image.

Did you know? Robert Debré initiated the hospital-university reform in France from 1958, creating the University Hospital Centers (CHUs) that still exist today. He is also the founder of the first modern pediatrics department at the Enfants-Malades hospital in Paris.
