Description

This figurine depicts a Spanish Foot Artillery captain, identifiable by his detailed uniform and upright posture. The piece is from the Del Prado collection, as indicated by the inscription visible on the base. The figurine sports a Napoleonic-era outfit: deep blue coat adorned with gold braids, yellow epaulettes, red collar and cuffs. The figure wears a tall black shako with a visor, decorated with a gold motif and a red plume on top.

The carefully painted face features prominent sideburns, typical of early 19th-century military uniforms. The right hand holds what appears to be a pair of white gloves, while the left hand rests on the guard of a gold saber, positioned alongside the leg. The entire figurine is highlighted with hand-painted details, particularly on the buttons and the braids of the plastron.

The oval black base bears the English inscription "Captain, Spanish Foot Artillery 1812" as well as the "del Prado Collection" logo. The base appears to have a matte finish, and the figurine features a color palette faithful to Napoleonic-era uniformology.

The paint surface shows some visible signs of wear, particularly on the boots and the bottom of the uniform, with slight chips or missing paint in some areas, without altering the legibility or integrity of the whole. The sword, epaulettes, braids, and plume are all present and recognizable.

This figurine is typical of the hand-painted lead models from the Del Prado collection, known for their historical accuracy and attention to detail. It stands out for the richness of its ornamentation and the faithful representation of the Spanish military costume of 1812.
