Jurassic ammonite fossil, beige, natural spiral mineral decor piece
AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Description
This Jurassic ammonite fossil features a characteristic spiral structure, clearly visible on the exposed face. The object has a light beige hue, punctuated by darker shades and slightly patinated areas, typical of mineralized fossils. The surface reveals regular radial ribs, typical of ammonite ornamentation, as well as a rough texture and well-defined relief.
The central end of the fossil shows a natural opening, a vestige of the siphuncle or the animal's initial chamber. The edge of the shell shows partial erosion, with some chips and asperities, testifying to its authenticity and age. No modern polishing is visible; the surface retains a raw appearance, which highlights the natural formation of the fossil.
The overall structure is coiled helically, typical of ammonites, and the visible section reveals several complete turns of the fossilized shell. This unique piece has a beautiful mineral presence, ideal for display on a desk, a shelf, or in a cabinet of curiosities.
The fossil is photographed against a carved wooden background with baroque-inspired decor, which highlights its material contrasts and natural hue. No stand, base, or frame is included or visible in the image.
The reverse, interior, and unexposed edge are not visible in the photo and therefore cannot be described.
Condition
Used item, sold as is. Presence of chips, wear, and missing parts visible around the edge. Raw and untouched appearance. Please examine the photo carefully to appreciate the precise condition of this fossilized ammonite.
Did you know? Ammonites are extinct marine mollusks that lived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their spiral shell served as both protection and a float, thanks to its internal compartments. Ammonite fossils are frequently used as stratigraphic markers to date Jurassic geological layers.
