Description

This specimen features a natural sedimentary slab, originating from a fine depositional environment, with a clear plant imprint at its center. The visible surface highlights the delicate stratification of the rock, characteristic of sedimentary formations conducive to the fossilization of leaves and plant elements. The imprint, dark brown to blackish, stands out against the beige to ochre matrix of the stone, emphasizing the fineness of the veins and the tapered shape of the fossilized leaf.

The slab displays a flat surface with some natural irregularities on the edges, typical of pieces manually extracted from a rock bed. The slightly angular appearance and the clean break on the lower side attest to a careful extraction that respects the original structure. No polishing or surface treatment is visible on the main face: the raw texture of the rock is preserved, enhancing the authenticity of the fossil.

The well-preserved central imprint reveals morphological details: the main vein and the contours of the lamina are clearly distinguishable, elements sought after by naturalists for botanical identification. The dark color of the fossilization contrasts with the light hue of the matrix, which facilitates the observation and study of the fossilized plant structure.

The natural stratification of the support is visible in the background, with discreet parallel lines accentuating the geological aspect. This aspect is particularly appreciated for educational or decorative presentation, as it recalls the original depositional environment. The lower edge reveals the superposition of sedimentary layers, without showing any other inclusions on this face.

The specimen is presented outdoors, placed on a natural base covered with moss, which highlights its geological origin. No artificial base or support is visible in the photo; only the main face of the slab is exposed.

Condition

Used item, sold as is. The surface shows slight natural irregularities and some small chips at the corners, without impacting the readability of the fossil imprint. The whole remains stable and well-preserved for display or study.

Did you know? Fossilized leaves allow paleobotanists to reconstruct ancient climates and ecosystems. Their exceptional preservation in fine deposits testifies to rapid sedimentation, limiting the decomposition of plant tissues. This type of fossil is often used to date geological layers and understand the evolution of plants through the ages.
