AFW - Antique France Worldwide
Large antique articulated doll, late 19th or early 20th century, with a molded, painted complexion body. A characterful piece, preserved in its antique condition, with visible mechanisms and joints.
Description
Large antique doll featuring an articulated body, with attached limbs and internal joints made of metal hooks and textile ties. The body is made of molded material with a painted surface in a rosy complexion, with facial modeling, a red-highlighted mouth, and sleepy eyes with brown lashes.
The head, arms, and legs retain a beautiful sculptural presence, typical of antique dolls from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The internal structure is visible through the top opening of the head and through the sockets, revealing the hooks, fastenings, and tension elements.
Context
Articulated dolls from this period often combine expressive facial features with bodies made of molded and painted materials, featuring articulation systems that allow for posing. This example fits into this world of antique manufacturing, between a children's toy, a decorative piece, and a testament to early doll-making techniques.
Condition
Used antique item, sold as is. Marked signs of use, rubbing, minor material loss, crazing, old repairs, and visible surface wear. The top of the head has a significant opening with visible internal elements; the fastenings and joints are present but should be handled with care. The overall form remains clearly legible and retains a strong antique character.
