Large lot of 19th-century handwritten letters and administrative documents, written in ink on old paper, with printed revenue stamps, seals, and dated notations visible between 1816 and 1821.

Description

Set of old handwritten administrative and legal documents, including letters, folded sheets, acts, or correspondences written in French in brown and black ink. Several documents feature beautiful period cursive writing, addresses, signatures, court registry notations, procedure references, and marginal annotations.

The papers bear various printed revenue stamps, including circular and allegorical vignettes with references to the 1816 law, as well as visible tax values such as 25c and 75c. Several handwritten dates from the early 19th century are also noted, including 1816, 1819, 1820, and 1821.

The lot offers a coherent set of old paper documents, interesting for the study of administrative writing, documentary taxation, and legal practices under the Restoration.

Context

These documents are part of French administrative production from the first third of the 19th century. Stamped paper, fiscal notations, and references to the 1816 law attest to the formalities in force for acts, petitions, judicial correspondences, or procedural documents. Condition

Used items, sold as is. An old set showing the natural patina of the paper: yellowing, foxing, creases, small tears, edge losses, handling marks, stains, and age-related wear.
