Handwritten administrative document from 1814, 19th century, written in brown ink on old stamped paper, with tight cursive script, printed fiscal stamp, and customary folded presentation.

Description

Old handwritten letter or administrative document dated 1814, consisting of sheets of old paper, written in brown ink in a cursive script characteristic of administrative writings from the early 19th century.

The document features a printed fiscal stamp for 75 centimes, visible on the sheet, as well as several handwritten notes, signatures, and annotations. The layout indicates administrative or legal use, with dense text, ruled or organized lines, margins, and handwritten cross-references.

The paper retains a beautiful material presence: old cream tint, original folds, irregular edges, and a brown cord attachment visible on one corner. The ensemble offers an evocative documentary testimony of French written and administrative practice in the early 19th century.

Context

Dated 1814, this piece belongs to a pivotal period in French history, at the end of the Empire and during the First Restoration. Administrative documents from this period often retain a highly codified writing style, precise legal phrasing, and the use of stamped paper, intended for official acts or civil procedures.

The printed fiscal stamp and the handwritten text give this piece documentary interest, both for administrative history and for the study of old writings.

Condition

Used antique item, sold as is. Paper with age patina, folding marks, foxing, small smudges, ink stains, and handling wear consistent with its age. Some edge irregularities and old marks are visible. The whole retains good general readability and an authentic character as an old document.
